Primaries. Check. Runoffs. Check. What now?
As the main event in the form of the General Election nears, it is safe to say Texas will be one to watch on the state and federal level. Democrats are looking to keep their momentum going from the 2018 mid-terms, where they gained and flipped enough seats in the Texas House to separate the margin by 9. House Republicans are prepared for battle as they try to get back the seats they lost and then some. On the federal level, six Texas Republican congressmen are retiring, and their Democratic counterparts have their eyes on those seats. Now throw in a global pandemic, a statewide lock down and reopening, a recession, social tensions, and a presidential election year.
November 3rd, 2020 is just over three months away; however, it is never too early to educate yourself about the ballot. NAIFA-Texas lobbyist, Elizabeth Hadley, and her colleague, Monica Schulteis in Washington, D.C., took us through a breakdown of the primary runoff results on the state and federal level during our first Quarterly Lobbyist Update (QLU) event. They offered their unique insights on the races to watch. You can view the recording of this event on the Government Relations section of our website. NAIFA-Texas will be closely monitoring these races and laying the groundwork for our legislative priorities come 2021!
Save the date for Tuesday, October 20, for our next QLU event! Occurring just two weeks before voting day, Elizabeth Hadley will be taking us through the current state of events and race projections. If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that anything can happen. Registration will be open soon.
