Welcome to NAIFA Texas Conference 2023. I am Rodney Mogen, the conference chair, and wanted to Welcome you to Austin in 2023.

This conference is our joint Conference and Legislative day. We will be providing some great content and also training and meetings with our legislators about our client’s financial concerns and legislation to assist them in achieving their goals.

Below are some FAQ’s to help you decide further to participate at our conference. We are looking to have 150 members plus participate and cover all our state Legislators. Whether this is your first time or your fiftieth we want you to be part of this great conference.

What is the conference theme?

  • “Advocating for our clients and ourselves”

Why did you pick Austin?

  • Every other year, our Legislature meets, so to best advocate for our clients we combine our state conference and advocacy together to best maximize everyone’s time

Why did you pick the dates you did?

  • The conference Committee looked at several dates and we had several factors we had to address; those factors included:
    • When Legislators have committee assignments
    • Event dates in Austin
      • Starting in March Austin hosts South by Southwest, 1st round of NCAA Women’s and Men’s Tournaments for basketball, several business conventions, and some really large legislative days for Texas Lawyers, West Texas, and other large groups
      • Also, Houston Rodeo starts Feb 28th, and Austin Rodeo March 21st
      • Spring break in different parts of the state start March 3rd and continue through the end of the month
  • Thus, the only viable dates were either before Presidents Day or after. Since we know many of you would like to take a small trip, we decided against before Presidents Day, and starting on a Tuesday.

Why are the speakers spread out?

  • Because legislators either go home or have committee meetings on Thursday and based on us starting on a Tuesday instead of on Presidents Day, we had to put the legislative day on Wednesday, and the rest of the conference on Thursday so we can also accommodate an in-Person LILI class.

Why the DoubleTree Hotel?

  • Several Reasons:
    • It is literally across the street from the Capitol so we can walk over for our meetings (3–5-minute walk) and we can have legislators come over for the reception easily as well.
    • Only four hotels within a very close distance of the Capitol that could accommodate our organization that had dates we were looking at.
    • Although the discounted room rate is 269, this was the cheapest room rate we could find in the entire city and be close to the capitol.
