With 33 years as a NAIFA member Doug has had the opportunity to serve in numerous leadership roles, including board member and President of a small Local Association (twice), a board member and President of a large State Association, a board member and President of an At-Large-Association and committee member and Chair of a major National Committee. Each of these experiences have given him an understanding of how NAIFA works, what members want and a passion to continue serving. Doug believes he can immediately contribute to the mission of NAIFA as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Those of you who have worked with Doug know one of his favorite sayings is “If it isn’t broke don’t fix it” NAIFA is not broke, but Doug believes we must change and follow through on the changes we have begun and most importantly diversify our revenue sources.

Doug and his wife , Margay have been married 31 years. They have three daughters, Madison, Morgan and Macy. They had their first grandchild Blayklee in September. Madison their oldest and Blayklee’s mother attended Tarleton State University and is now stay at home mom. Morgan graduated from Texas Tech in December and was hired by CDW in the Corporate Sales Department in Frisco Texas. At least one of them is in sales. Macy their youngest is a senior at Texas Tech and was in intern for Senator John Cornyn in Washington DC this spring. Her time in DC was cut short with the Corona virus, but she did get to see history with the impeachment hearings. She plans to attend law school after graduation.

Doug and his family spend most summers at their lake house, which is only 7 miles from their home. They enjoy most summer evening in or around the water. The lake house was the go to hang out place for all their girls’ friends and they really enjoy entertaining small and large groups.

NAIFA-Texas Past President and current NAIFA-Texas National Committeeperson, Jason Talley, LUTCF presented this distinguished award to Doug Massey at the 2022 NAIFA-Texas Annual State Conference on Friday, February 25, 2022.

Jason Talley said he was honored to serve this award to a great leader and friend. Jason described Doug Massey as Country Boy. "What characteristics do country people have? Well, they're responsible, they're giving, they're sincere, their handshake is their contract, they persevere through tough times, they serve in their communities, the people they know, and the people that need help".

Jason shared that NAIFA has been a big part of Doug's life and that "if you've been to any meeting, in any town, I don't remember a time when Doug has not been there. He is anything political. If you need a question answered in politics, he is the go to guy. If you need testimony, he is the go to guy. If you need anything answered in investments and savings, he's the go to guy. He has been a servient leader in this association, he has accomplished so many things, and has done it with no pay, all volunteer. He's the guy that you can call on anything to help you with".
